He took the computer to his workshop where he believes he has a spare card that is compatible. Because he has other clients to take care of first, it is anticipated that he will attempt to replace the damaged video card over the weekend. As Monday is Martin Luthur King Jr. Day, he has the day off from his "day job" and it is hoped that he can return the unit to the studio and place it back in service sometime that day or evening. In the meantime, I have rigged a bare bones laptop with Winamp to run a continuous simulcast of the World Radio Network (WRN) on the GCR1 feed. I felt that this was better than the repeating backup loop of old, probably outdated content. At least there will be something current and relevant on the feed for the next few days, and many of the shows your listeners are used to will still be there, just not necessarily at their regular times. If another update is needed, I will post it to the blog and email it to all concerned parties. Thank you for your continued patience, support and understanding.
Global Community Radiohttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07163671824089776876noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-533176999385520784.post-46936846785515082932024-01-09T17:28:00.000-08:002024-01-09T17:28:39.391-08:00GCR1 Computer Down
The pitfalls of running an internet radio station never cease. Here at our location in upstate New York, we experienced high winds this evening. That in turn caused a brief power outage. The resulting surge fried something in the GCR1 computer so that I have no monitor display so I can't see to operate the unit. It was plugged into a battery backup surge protector, but apparently the battery needed to be recharged, as it didn't kick in like it was supposed to. So, our computer tech will be in studio on Thursday, 1/11, to investigate the situation and see what needs to be done. Hopefully the stream will be back to normal programming late that evening. Until then, the backup loop of random older shows wiill have to do. I am truly sorry, stations. Thank you for your patience and understanding.

Global Community Radiohttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07163671824089776876noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-533176999385520784.post-87731597466995513462023-12-12T22:01:00.000-08:002023-12-12T22:01:35.601-08:00GCR2 Back Online
Dear Friends and Listeners:

I am happy to report that the GCR2 stream is back online with normal programming. It returned to the air Wednesday, 12/13 at Midnight Eastern. Over the next few days, all the logs will be rebuilt. Our tech, Andrew, did a heroic job getting a new hard drive installed into a like-new computer for us. So we should be set for the foreseeable future.

Thanks to all of you for your patience, understanding and continued support.

Happy Holidays to you and yours.

Jason Longwell

Global Community Radiohttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07163671824089776876noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-533176999385520784.post-29095463461664081592023-12-04T16:25:00.000-08:002023-12-04T16:25:23.315-08:00Status Update: GCR2
Dear Friends:

I am sorry to say that the repairs to the GCR2 machine will take longer than previously hoped. Further damage to the hard disk was discovered by our technician. So, the drive itself must be replaced, and then the automation and related files must be reinstalled and rebuilt. At this time, the earliest we can hope for the stream to be back online is Wednesday, December 13th. But, even then, I honestly can't make any promises. Please be assured our computer tech, Andrew, is doing his best to help us get back online. But this is a busy time for him, he is also waiting on parts, and he has other clients and commitments. He and I both ask for everyone to please understand this, and to be patient. One way or another, tough, we WILL be back online soon. The repeating backup loop will run on the GCR2 stream until then. But, if you want fresh content for your station, I suggest switching to either the GCR1 or GCR3 stream, even if on a temporary basis. Your listeners may enjoy the change.

Thank you for your continued understanding and support.

Jason Longwell

Global Community Radiohttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07163671824089776876noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-533176999385520784.post-56213298376055194692023-11-27T02:47:00.000-08:002023-11-27T02:47:28.830-08:00GCR2 Status Update
Unfortunately, the unit is still down. Still receiving error messages when trying to load the sound card software. I have been in contact with my tech. He will be here to have a look at the problem, but he won't be able to make it until Wednesday evening. So, assuming he and I are able to resolve the issue while he is here, GCR2 should resume normal programming by Thursday morning, 11/30. I'm afraid that's the best I can offer everyone at this point. I am sorry. Stations, if you don't want the backup loop of programming that is on the GCR2 stream right now, I suggest temporarily switching to GCR1 or GCR3, as normal programming continues on these streams. I will post further updates here as I have them. Thank you again, and my apologies for this unexpected frustration and inconvenience.

Global Community Radiohttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07163671824089776876noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-533176999385520784.post-36175077843730727612023-11-26T03:00:00.000-08:002023-11-26T03:00:32.928-08:00GCR2 Stream Offline
Dear GCR2 Listeners and Partner Stations:

I am sorry to report that the GCR2 stream is offline. A driver that powers the sound card for the computer seems to be corrupt. I do not have the needed skills to repair or reinstall this device. So I am going to call my computer tech later today. I do not know when he will be available to have a look at the problem. It may be up to a week before he can do it. I will know more when I talk to him later today. Fortunately, the backup loop of programming in our Streamerr cloud will run so you won't be left with dead air, but, normal programming will be suspended until further notice. I sincerely apologize, and I thank you for your support, patience and understanding. Here's hoping we can have the problem fixed soon.

Sincerely,

Jason Longwell
GCR Station Manager

Global Community Radiohttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07163671824089776876noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-533176999385520784.post-33465999620235164982023-10-12T13:11:00.000-07:002023-10-12T13:11:00.290-07:00GCR2 Announces Changes to Its World Music Programming
Global Community Radio Channel Two is pleased to announce some changes to its very popular World music lineup. Changes made by Al Jazeera to their audio page on the network's website have made it impossible for our recording software to automatically capture the live stream for delayed broadcast. Attempts to then access the audio via the network's live Youtube stream have also proven to be unsuccessful for a variety of reasons, including Youtube's insertion of random ads during the live stream disrupting the program audio. As stated above, we are sad to lose access to content from a venerable international broadcaster such as Al Jazeera, but, it is a situation that cannot be helped at this time. If and when circumstances change, we may consider bringing this content back to GCR1 if there is enough of a demand for it. Those still wishing to watch and/or listen to Al Jazeera English may still do so 24/7 via Youtube and the network's own web portal.

Going forward, we are pleased to offer English language content from two more international broadcasters. At 6PM Eastern/3PM Pacific, we are pleased to announce the return to GCR of RAE Argentina's daily English language program. At 6:30/3:30, we welcome a new broadcaster to our already diverse lineup, as we now offer the daily English news and features program from Radio Algeria International. The Loh Down on Science segment will continue to be heard at the end of this hour.

As always, we thank our partner stations and our listeners for their patience and understanding in these matters. Also, as always, we encourage you to send us feedback about the programming changes. Send e-mail to globalcommunityradio@gmail.com.

Sincerely,

Jason Longwell
GCR Station Manager

Global Community Radiohttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07163671824089776876noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-533176999385520784.post-90112608149627286372022-02-16T02:25:00.004-08:002022-02-23T00:39:31.900-08:00Big Changes to GCR1 Schedule
Dear GCR Listeners and Partner Stations:

GCR is pleased to announce changes to its GCR1 program schedule. We believe that these changes will make the channel even more diverse in that there will be even more international perspectives offered on a daily basis. We are also adding programs catering to niche audiences, including weekly shows touching on workplace culture, and issues of interest to seniors. At the same time, GCR1 remains true to its commitment to offering many of its long running program offerings in the fields of world news and progressive views.

Among the changes to our international broadcast relays, are the addition of daily English programs from Radio Bulgaria and Voice of Nigeria. We are also adding a daily 30 minute international newscast from All India Radio, and a morning news bulletin from DW in Germany. Also, due to the ongoing and ever changing events currently taking place in Ukraine, we are adding a daily program from the Voice of America called Flashpoint Ukraine.

Please see the updated GCR1 schedule on this website for all the details. As always, your feedback about these changes is very much appreciated. Let us know how GCR can better serve you!
First, I sincerely hope you are all well, and that you are all staying safe during these chaotic times we are living in. So far, I am well, and am observing the necessary social distancing measures to ensure that I remain that way.

I have recently made some changes to the GCR3 program schedule. I have added a few new shows, and moved some shows around to other times. I have done this to give the station a more consistent sound, and, also, to satisfy some requests from GCR partner stations. Please refer to the GCR3 schedule page for the most up to date program listings.

Fortunately, the COVID pandemic has had minimal impact on GCR programming overall. A handful of our international broadcasters have suspended English language radio broadcasts due to virus related staff cuts in their respective countries. In some cases, they have substituted radio broadcasts with audio from their English language TV services, while others have suspended foreign language output entirely. We can only hope these measures are temporary, and that normal program production will resume once this situation finally passes. One broadcaster which has suspended programming is RAE Argentina. For now, we are replacing their nightly half hour at 11 PM Eastern with an additional airing of DW News. We hope to resume carrying RAE as soon as program production resumes.

Speaking of DW, their science and tech program has been renamed from Spectrum to Science Unscripted. The show still airs at its normal time on Tuesdays on GCR1.

A few of the music programs on GCR2 and 3 have also had to suspend production due to being locked out of their studio facilities due to the crisis. Among them, The Cool Jazz Set with Paul Pearce. GCR will offer archived programs until new episodes become available.

One show that we are regretfully saying goodbye to very soon is Rolling Hills Radio. Ken Hardley announced recently that he is ending production of this outstanding live music series from Jamestown, NY, in order to pursue other personal and professional endeavors. It has been a pleasure to have RHR on GCR2, and I want to wish Ken and Cathie the very best. We will continue to air the series until all the backlogged episodes that have been downloaded are broadcast. Watch the GCR2 schedule soon for updates.

That's the latest from here. Thank you, everyone, for your continued support of Global Community Radio.

Stay safe!
Thanks to Paul at Encompass Digital Media, along with a listener to GCR, I now have the new link to access the audio, and have successfully programmed that link into Zara Radio, our automation software. All WRN programming has been restored.

Thanks, everyone, for your patience and understanding while working through this issue.Global Community Radiohttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07163671824089776876noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-533176999385520784.post-33908748408596102772019-10-20T21:00:00.001-07:002019-10-20T21:00:27.952-07:00Important: GCR1 Affiliates: World Radio Network Website DownTo All GCR1 Affiliates:

On Friday, it was brought to my attention that the programming we normally receive from the World Radio Network (WRN) was missing. I soon discovered that the entire WRN website, wrn.org, could no longer be accessed. I then went to the website of the parent company of WRN, Encompass Digital Media, and their web page for the World Radio Network. This page contains dead links to all WRN streams.

As of right now, I do not think that WRN has completely shut down. I am hoping that the site is just temporarily down, or that there is a new link I can use to access WRN streaming audio. I will be sending an email to Encompass in the hope of getting some answers. In the interim, I will have no choice but to offer you substitute programming during the hours where WRN material is currently scheduled. I apologize for any inconvenience this may cause to your station. If WRN has indeed shut down for good, I will need to try to find on-demand audio files for as many of the WRN international broadcasters as possible. Unfortunately, not all of these broadcasters offer podcasts of their daily news programs, so, some of them may have to be dropped. Please know that I will do all that I can to try to prevent that from occurring.

Please check this blog for further updates as they become available. As always, thank you for your continued support.
The biggest changes have taken place on GCR2 and GCR3 where several new music programs have been added, including The Dancehall/Reggae Show and Electric City on GCR2, as well as Ancient and Modern, and Jazz Vignettes From the Hall on GCR3. Have a look at the complete program schedules on this website.
A few changes are still forthcoming to GCR3. These changes will be implemented as soon as I know for sure what is happening with the programs involved. The schedule pages for all streams have been updated, including updating broken or inaccurate links. If you find a link that is still not valid, please email it to me, and I will update it immediately.Global Community Radiohttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07163671824089776876noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-533176999385520784.post-44351031016932690282019-08-28T01:02:00.002-07:002019-08-28T01:02:30.156-07:00GCR2 Machine Down. Temporary Setup Running This Morning. We had a short power glitch that has caused booting problems with the GCR2 machine. this is the second time this has happened. I will be calling our computer tech this morning to ask him to come fix the problem asap and will also ask him if he could find a way to stop this issue from occurring every time the power goes out here. Starting at 5 AM Eastern, I will setup a temporary "bare bones" GCR2 stream from my production computer with normal Wednesday morning programming. Hoping our tech will be available this morning to stop by the studio and fix this. Sorry for the inconvenience.Global Community Radiohttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07163671824089776876noreply@blogger.com
