WRN Issue Resolved

I am pleased to inform you all that the problem with the missing WRN audio feed has been fixed. Thanks to Paul at Encompass Digital Media, along with a listener to GCR, I now have the new link to access the audio, and have successfully programmed that link into Zara Radio, our automation software. All WRN programming has been restored.

Thanks, everyone, for your patience and understanding while working through this issue.

Important: GCR1 Affiliates: World Radio Network Website Down

To All GCR1 Affiliates:

On Friday, it was brought to my attention that the programming we normally receive from the World Radio Network (WRN) was missing. I soon discovered that the entire WRN website, wrn.org, could no longer be accessed. I then went to the website of the parent company of WRN, Encompass Digital Media, and their web page for the World Radio Network. This page contains dead links to all WRN streams.

As of right now, I do not think that WRN has completely shut down. I am hoping that the site is just temporarily down, or that there is a new link I can use to access WRN streaming audio. I will be sending an email to Encompass in the hope of getting some answers. In the interim, I will have no choice but to offer you substitute programming during the hours where WRN material is currently scheduled. I apologize for any inconvenience this may cause to your station. If WRN has indeed shut down for good, I will need to try to find  on-demand audio files for as many of the WRN international broadcasters as possible. Unfortunately, not all of these broadcasters offer podcasts of their daily news programs, so, some of them may have to be dropped. Please know that I will do all that I can to try to prevent that from occurring.

Please check this blog for further updates as they become available. As always, thank you for your continued support.

Program Schedule Pages Updated

Most of the aforementioned programming changes have now taken place on all streams. A few changes are still forthcoming to GCR3. These changes will be implemented as soon as I know for sure what is happening with the programs involved. The schedule pages for all streams have been updated, including updating broken or inaccurate links. If you find a link that is still not valid, please email it to me, and I will update it immediately.

GCR2 Machine Down. Temporary Setup Running This Morning.

We had a short power glitch that has caused booting problems with the GCR2 machine. this is the second time this has happened. I will be calling our computer tech this morning to ask him to come fix the problem asap and will also ask him if he could find a way to stop this issue from occurring every time the power goes out here. Starting at 5 AM Eastern, I will setup a temporary "bare bones" GCR2 stream from my production computer with normal Wednesday morning programming. Hoping our tech will be available this morning to stop by the studio and fix this. Sorry for the inconvenience.

Recent and Upcoming Changes to GCR Programming

Dear GCR Affiliates and Listeners:

I know it's been a while since I've posted any blog upstes concerning programming on the three streams of Global Community Radio. Sometimes, time gets away from me, and I don't have as much time to dedicate to the blog portion of the website as I would like.

Indeed, there have been several recent program changes at GCR, and I am excited about others which are upcoming.

I hope that everyone is enjoying the new music shows recently added to GCR2. These shows include Now That's Americana (formerly The Miller Tells Her Tale), Direct From Muscle Shoals, Chenango Sessions, eTown, Beale Street Caravan, and Billy's Blues Hour.

Changes have taken place/will be taking place at GCR3, too. We are happy to announce the reinstatement of the popular Early Music series, Harmonia, from Indiana Public Media. It's back on GCR3 at its former time of Sundays at 9 AM Eastern/6 AM Pacific. Cadenza has shifted to Mondays at 11 AM Eastern, preceded by Live From the Grand Teton Music Festival, which is back for another season of live concert broadcasts. I regret to say that due to recurring technical issues with recording the series every week for time-shifted broadcast, I've had to discontinue our airing of The Opera Show. The series lives on via the ABC Classic website. GCR will continue to offer its overnight simulcast of ABC Classic "live" Monday thru Friday. In place of The Opera Show on Saturdays, we will offer a rotating series of live concert broadcasts which we hope everyone will enjoy. Another significant change coming soon is the end of the Early Music series, Distant Mirror, from WWFM in New Jersey. The long time host of the series, Alan Kelly, is retiring later this Summer. Expect changes to the Wednesday and Thursday morning Classical lineups on GCR3 once Distant Mirror has aired its final episode. Among the changes, is the addition of a new program to our lineup, Classical Music On The Third Floor. This weekly three hour program offers a diverse selection of instrumental and vocal Classical music with a different theme every week.

Please be sure to watch the program schedule pages for all GCR streams for the latest programming updates, as well as here on this blog.

As always, thank you for your continued support of Global Community Radio.

Internet Restored. New Programs Resume Tonight

After a nearly 16 hour outage in which our internet was "crippled" but not totally down, things have finally returned to "normal". I can now access all the regular download sites for shows, so new episodes of shows on all streams will be heard from this evening forward.

Thanks to all of you for your patience and understanding. After this ridiculously long internet outage, paired with recurring problems we've been having with our phone service, I may be looking for new providers for both very soon!

Reruns on all streams today (5/31)

Yesterday, something got fowled up in the internet settings on the computer which I use to download new shows for all GCR program streams. Now, I can't seem to access many of the websites where I need to get new audio files. Needless to say, I will be calling my computer tech as soon as he is open for business this morning, and I am hopeful he will be able to come to GCR headquarters and have a look at this issue. Until then, I have no choice but to offer repeats of last Friday's shows. Thank you for your understanding. I apologize for the inconvenience.

Important Notice: Possible Power Outage At GCR Headquarters Due to High Winds

Dear Listeners and Partner Stations:

We are under a high wind warning here in upstate New York from Sunday night all the way thru Monday afternoon (2/24-2/25). I have seen and heard multiple news and weather reports anticipating damage to trees and power lines in this area as a result of wind gusts as high as 70 miles per hour. I sincerely hope that we don't lose power at GCR headquarters in Geneva, NY, but, if you hear our backup loop of instrumental music in lieu of our normal programming, this is most likely the reason why. I wanted to try and alert everyone of the situation in advance. As always, apologies for any inconvenienve this may cause. Further updates on the situation will be posted if necessary.

Thank you for listening to and supporting GCR.
