GCR1 Programming Changes

Dear GCR1 Partner Stations and Listeners:

We've recently made some changes to our program schedule for Global Community Radio Channel One. These changes were made due to changes to, or the cancellation of, a few GCR1 programs.

We recently dropped Maternally Yours Radio due to the lack of new episodes. We're sorry to see this series go away, as we felt it served as a very educational and informative series for expectant and new mothers. If a similar series becomes available in the future, we will certainly consider adding it to our program schedule. In the meantime, we have added The Bioneers, a series focusing on a variety of environmental and social issues, Healty Moments, a short weekly module on a variety of health topics, and For Women Over Forty, a series dealing with a variety of issues facing women as they age. This hour of new programming runs on Tuesdays from 10 to 11 AM Eastern.

The youth magazine Pulse, produced by DW in Germany, has been cut back to 20 minutes per week. We will continue to air Pulse every Friday at 4:30 PM Eastern. To round out the half hour, we are adding a short human interest segment from VOA called American Cafe, running at around 4:50 PM Eastern.

Lastly, it appears that the Canadian drama series Decoder Ring Theatre has transitioned from an audio podcast to a video podcast series. As GCR is a radio service, we don't feel this transition fits well with our mission. So, we have added The Radio Theater Project, a series of radio drams recorded live at community station KSVR in Skagit Valley, Washington. This series will air Saturdays at 11:30 PM Eastern. Stay tuned for more developments concerning the !! PM hour on Saturdays.

GCR1 to air special war of the worlds marathon broadcast

Tune into GCR1 on Halloween night for a special six hour War of the Worlds marathon broadcast, as we pay tribute to the iconic 1938 broadcast which caused a nationwide panic, as millions of Americans believed that the Earth was being invaded by Martians. You'll hear the original Mercury Theater on the Air adaptation of the H.G. Wells novel War of the Worlds, as well as more recent broadcasts inspired by the original. This is available on our partner station Wings Radio 1, Monday, 10/31, starting at 6 PM Eastern. Also, another of our partner stations, KNDY XTRA will air this special independently of GCR1, starting at 6 PM Central time that same night. Enjoy!

GCR Affiliation Changes

Recently, Global Community Radio has been notified in writing that WGRN-LP in Colombus, Ohio has cancelled its Saturday afternoon/evening relay of GCR2. They tell us that their listeners wanted the station to resume its automated Jazz format on Saturdays. We thank WGRN for giving GCR2 a chance to be heard on the Columbus airwaves. We were also told that WGRN would not rule out using GCR again at some point in the future, in other day parts.

Also, we are pleased to welcome back to the GCR family of partner stations WWLR 91.5 in Lyndonville, Vermont. Starting Monday, October 24th, they will be using small portions of GCR2's programming during the following times:
Monday: 1-4 AM
Wednesday and Friday: 1-5 AM
Saturday: 10 AM-Noon
All times Eastern.

Changes to GCR2 Saturday Lineup

Dear Global Community Radio Partner Stations:

Global Community Radio prides itself on offering top quality, fully hosted programming to its partner stations. GCR also tries to air programs and series' that are current, with new shows being produced frequently. To that end, we are proud to announce some changes to our Saturday lineup of nostalgic music programs on GCR2 which we feel you and your listeners will enjoy.

Most of the changes are effective August 20th, we will be dropping the Radiola! program. We're sad to lose this outstanding program of vintage recordings. Unfortunately, it appears the show is no longer in production. If new episodes become available at some point in the future, and there is room on the schedule, we would not rule out returning Radiola! to our Saturday lineup.

At 8 AM Eastern, Global Community Radio is pleased to be adding another outstanding program playing music of the 1920s and 30s. The show, Rapidly Rotating Records, is hosted by Glenn Robison, and originates at community station KISL in Avalon, California. We look forward to adding this one hour weekly one hour radio program to our schedule, and we feel your listeners who enjoyed Radiola! will like RRR.

We are shifting the rest of our Saturday morning programming back one hour. So the new schedule looks like this. All times Eastern
9:00 Strike Up the Band
10:00 Fabulous 50's Radio Show
11:00 The Swinging 60's

To consolidate things, and to make the music "flow" better, we are shifting Paul Peters' The Pirate Years show to start at Noon Eastern, with Stuck in the Psychedelic Era staying in its current time slot at 1 PM.

At 3 PM Eastern, GCR2 is pleased to announce yet another new addition to our Saturday lineup. Rockin' in the Days of Confusion if a new show presented by "The Hermit" of Stuck in the Psychedelic Era. This show focuses on deeper album rock from the late 60s through the late 70s. If your listeners enjoy Classic Rock, but hate the boring repetition that has become so typical of commercial Classic Rock radio, they are sure to enjoy this new hour long show.

The remainder of our Saturday lineup, and the lineup for the rest of the week on GCR2 remains unchanged.

We hope you and your listeners will enjoy the new lineup, and we apologize for any inconveniences these changes may cause to your station's program schedule.

GCR Welcomes New Partner Station in Ohio

Global Community Radio is pleased to welcome another partner station to our ever growing family.

This time, we say hello to listeners in Columbus, Ohio, who will now be treated to GCR2's diverse music programming on WGRN "The Green Renaissance" at 94.1 on the FM dial.

Currently, WGRN will rebroadcast GCR2 every Saturday from 1PM to Midnight Eastern. They have also expressed interest in possibly using more GCR programming in the future.

We welcome WGRN, and look forward to serving the Columbus community with eclectic music they won't hear anywhere else on the local radio dial.

Global Community Radio Welcomes New Partner Station in Upstate New York

Global Community Radio is pleased to welcome yet another partner station. This time, we say hello to our new listeners in the Rochester, New York metro on brand new community station WXIR-LP "Extreme Independent Radio" a new radio service from the folks at Rochester Community Media. Listeners in Rochester can hear select hours of programming from both GCR1 and GCR2 seven days a week at 100.9 FM.

We sincerely hope listeners in Rochester will enjoy the programming of Global Community Radio, in addition to the wide variety of local programming that will be offered by this station.

GCR1 Gains New Internet Partner Station

Global Community Radio continues to grow, and expand its network of partner stations for both of its services. We are delighted to announce a new partnership with Wings Radio 1, an online radio service based in Lake Placid, Florida. Wings Radio 1 will use the programming of GCR1 for much of its programming day, for now, but will add local programming to serve their local communities in the not too distant future.
