New World Music Shows Coming To GCR2

GCR2 is proud to announce the debut of new World music programming on Mondays.

Around the World is a weekly two-hour show hosted by veteran Irish broadcaster Davy Sims. Each week, Davy presents some of the latest and greatest tracks from all corners of the globe, including a featured release of the week. Airs Mondays at 4 PM Eastern/1PM Pacific. Starting December 29th. Debuting on January 5th is Bossa Brasil. This show comes to us from WPVM community radio in Asheville, North Carolina. Tune in to hear an hour of the best in Brazilian music presented by Rodger Collins. Airs Mondays at 9 PM Eastern/6 PM Pacific.

Ten Years of Global Community Radio

It's hard to believe that GCR is celebrating its tenth anniversary this month. Time truly does fly when you are having fun. I just wanted to take a moment to say thank you to all of GCR's partner stations both past and present, as well as our loyal listeners everywhere. This service could not possibly exist without you. I will always remember that. As 2025 draws to a close, let us look forward to many more years of Global Community Radio!

GCR Welcomes New Partner Station

 Global Community Radio is pleased to welcome WEJP-LP in Wheeling, West Virginia as a new partner station. WEJP will rebroadcast portions of GCR2 during overnights, and may use more content from GCR2 or GCR3 to their schedule in the future. Thanks to John Morgan and the crew at WEJP for choosing to partner with us.

GCR Welcomes Neon Jazz to the GCR3 Schedule

 Global Community Radio is pleased to welcome Neon Jazz to our already diverse lineup of Jazz programs. The show, based in Kansas City, offers listeners some of the best in new releases as well as interview segments with the artists that are making the music and keeping Jazz alive in the 21st century. We'll be airing a mix of new episodes as well as shows from Joe's extensive archive. Tune in late night Monday to Friday for Neon Jazz on GCR3.

VOA R.I.P.

As many of you may already know, after 82 years of being a bastion of free speech, unbiased news coverage, and American culture to the world, The Voice of America and other US Government sponsored international broadcast services were abruptly shuttered last weekend.

Global Community Radio deeply regrets these developments in so many ways, not the least of which being the fact that GCR has been a VOA affiliate since the launch of the station in December of 2015. We have carried many of VOA's programs, in addition to its top of hour newscasts. Now, all of that is gone.

We have been retooling the schedule of GCR1 to accommodate for this sudden loss. We are in negotiations right now with a few other news providers, and details of those negotiations will be forthcoming. In the meantime, we are running some new programming in "test mode" to determine if partner stations and listeners like it. Please tune in to GCR1 and let us know your thoughts. The program schedule is slowly being updated as details are finalized.

There is some hope in certain circles that congress and/or the courts may step in and order that VOA be reinstated. If and when this happens, and if the service is restored to its former glory, and not simply used as a propaganda tool, GCR may consider reinstating some VOA content.

Changes to GCR Schedules for 2025

 Global Community Radio has made further changes to its music streams' schedules. These changes are due in part to the cancellation of some shows recently, as well as requests and feedback from our listeners and partner stations. The full and up to date schedules appear on this blog, as always.

GCR Schedule Changes: October 2024

 Global Community Radio has made some changes across all three of its online streams. On GCR1, there are no times for shows like Storage Unit 217, Encouragementology, and the Anna Jinja show. We've also added the new VOA News series The Issue to the lineup. GCR2 adds shows like Blues Hound Radio and Ahmet's House. GCR3 adds The Jazz Oasis, from the same producer who is best know for Blues Before Sunrise. As always, the updated schedules are posted on this website.

GCR2 Schedule Changes

GCR2 is pleased to welcome several new shows to our already eclectic lineup. These shows include new series' which focus on Welsh Music, Caribbean Music, and eclectic global Pop. See the full, up to date schedule on this blog.

Changes to GCR1 Schedule

 We've made a few changes to the GCR1 lineup. Monday through Friday at 11:30 PM Eastern/8:30 Pacific, we are now offering audio simulcasts of various programs from DW's TV service. We think these shows will compliment the fine news and public service programming we have been airing from the German public broadcaster for many years. Also, we've replaced Inspired/Interfaith Voices with a similarly minded show called Spirit In Action every Sunday at 8:05 AM Eastern/5:05 Pacific. Recent Changes to Jazz Programming on GCR3

We've made changes to some of the Jazz programming on GCR3. Cheryl K's two outstanding programs, The Jazz Disturbance and Situation Fluxus, are now produced on a bi-weekly basis. Jazz Disturbance will now run every 1st, 3rd and 5th Monday of the month at 5PM Eastern/2PM Pacific alternating with The Jazz Train on the 2nd and 4th Mondays. Meanwhile, Situation Fluxus will now air every 2nd and 4th Tuesday at 6PM Eastern/3PM Pacific alternating with Jazz Progressions on the 1st, 3rd and 5th Tuesdays. Early Sunday morning at 2AM Eastern, we're now airing Jazztrack With Mal Stanley from the ABC in Australia. We are also airing archived episodes of the old time radio series G.I. Jive featuring classic Jazz and Swing performances from the World War II era, along with the Sunday Music Show from Radio Prague. The full schedule has been updated on this website. GCR3 is the station that Has The Jazz.

GCR3 Schedule Updates

 We've made some changes to the GCR3 program schedule. We've added several new shows, deleted some series' which are no longer in production, and reinstated some old favorites. All of this is being done to improve the overall quality of the Classical and Jazz programming that listeners and affiliate stations have come to expect from GCR3. Status Update: GCR1

 

Hello All.

So our tech had a look at the unit Thursday night, and it needs a new video card. He took the computer to his workshop where he believes he has a spare card that is compatible. Because he has other clients to take care of first, it is anticipated that he will attempt to replace the damaged video card over the weekend. As Monday is Martin Luthur King Jr. Day, he has the day off from his "day job" and it is hoped that he can return the unit to the studio and place it back in service sometime that day or evening. In the meantime, I have rigged a bare bones laptop with Winamp to run a continuous simulcast of the World Radio Network (WRN) on the GCR1 feed. I felt that this was better than the repeating backup loop of old, probably outdated content. At least there will be something current and relevant on the feed for the next few days, and many of the shows your listeners are used to will still be there, just not necessarily at their regular times. If another update is needed, I will post it to the blog and email it to all concerned parties. Thank you for your continued patience, support and understanding.

GCR1 Computer Down

 The pitfalls of running an internet radio station never cease. Here at our location in upstate New York, we experienced high winds this evening. That in turn caused a brief power outage. The resulting surge fried something in the GCR1 computer so that I have no monitor display so I can't see to operate the unit. It was plugged into a battery backup surge protector, but apparently the battery needed to be recharged, as it didn't kick in like it was supposed to. So, our computer tech will be in studio on Thursday, 1/11, to investigate the situation and see what needs to be done. Hopefully the stream will be back to normal programming late that evening. Until then, the backup loop of random older shows wiill have to do. I am truly sorry, stations. Thank you for your patience and understanding.

GCR2 Back Online

Dear Friends and Listeners:

I am happy to report that the GCR2 stream is back online with normal programming. It returned to the air Wednesday, 12/13 at Midnight Eastern. Over the next few days, all the logs will be rebuilt. Our tech, Andrew, did a heroic job getting a new hard drive installed into a like-new computer for us. So we should be set for the foreseeable future.

Status Update: GCR2

 Dear Friends:

I am sorry to say that the repairs to the GCR2 machine will take longer than previously hoped. Further damage to the hard disk was discovered by our technician. So, the drive itself must be replaced, and then the automation and related files must be reinstalled and rebuilt. At this time, the earliest we can hope for the stream to be back online is Wednesday, December 13th. But, even then, I honestly can't make any promises. Please be assured our computer tech, Andrew, is doing his best to help us get back online. But this is a busy time for him, he is also waiting on parts, and he has other clients and commitments. He and I both ask for everyone to please understand this, and to be patient. One way or another, tough, we WILL be back online soon. The repeating backup loop will run on the GCR2 stream until then. But, if you want fresh content for your station, I suggest switching to either the GCR1 or GCR3 stream, even if on a temporary basis. Your listeners may enjoy the change.

GCR2 Status Update

 Unfortunately, the unit is still down. Still receiving error messages when trying to load the sound card software. I have been in contact with my tech. He will be here to have a look at the problem, but he won't be able to make it until Wednesday evening. So, assuming he and I are able to resolve the issue while he is here, GCR2 should resume normal programming by Thursday morning, 11/30. I'm afraid that's the best I can offer everyone at this point. I am sorry. Stations, if you don't want the backup loop of programming that is on the GCR2 stream right now, I suggest temporarily switching to GCR1 or GCR3, as normal programming continues on these streams. I will post further updates here as I have them. Thank you again, and my apologies for this unexpected frustration and inconvenience.

GCR2 Stream Offline

Dear GCR2 Listeners and Partner Stations:

I am sorry to report that the GCR2 stream is offline. A driver that powers the sound card for the computer seems to be corrupt. I do not have the needed skills to repair or reinstall this device. So I am going to call my computer tech later today. I do not know when he will be available to have a look at the problem. It may be up to a week before he can do it. I will know more when I talk to him later today. Fortunately, the backup loop of programming in our Streamerr cloud will run so you won't be left with dead air, but, normal programming will be suspended until further notice. I sincerely apologize, and I thank you for your support, patience and understanding. Here's hoping we can have the problem fixed soon.

GCR2 Announces Changes to Its World Music Programming

 Global Community Radio Channel Two is pleased to announce some changes to its very popular World music lineup. Due to the Voice of America ending its daily hosted music program, African Beat, we are moving most of the Sunday World music programming to weekdays at 6PM Eastern/3PM Pacific. We are also adding two new series. Far and Wide, Near and Deep from WBDY community radio in Binghamton, and a two hour Latin music show, Nuestra Musica (Our Music). We are also delighted to welcome back to our diverse program schedule the weekly eclectic music program Ambassador Radio.

Another Round of Programming Changes At GCR2

GCR1 Welcomes A New, Unique Show To Monday Afternoons

 GCR1 is pleased to welcome Storage Unit 217 to its lineup. This is a production of Kutztown University Radio, and is hosted by Lew Green and Tony Wellman. Each episode takes the listener inside Storage Unit 217. Lew Green has been accumulating a wide variety of odds and ends inside unit 217 since 1972, and each show tells the story behind a particular item.

Storage Unit 217 will air on the 3rd and 5th Monday of each month at 3:30 PM Eastern/12:30 Pacific.
