Global Community Radio is pleased to welcome a new station to the growing list of campus and community radio stations using portions of GCR's programming when no local programming is being aired.
This time, we welcome WLSL-LP (92.7) in Saint Leo, Florida. WLSL is the student run radio station of Saint Leo University.
WLSL will be offering the programs of GCR2 to the Saint Leo community every night from Midnight to 8 AM Eastern.
Thanks to John Muow and the rest of the crew at WLSL for giving GCR this great opportunity.

More Changes to GCR Programming
Dear GCR Listeners and Partner Stations:
This seems to be a monthly routine. Once again it is necessary to make some alternations to the schedules of both GCR1 and GCR2.
Several changes to GCR1:
We are dropping Liberation Radio, as, it seems that they are not maintaining a regular weekly production schedule as was previously hoped. We are implementing a new stricter policy at GCR when it comes to programmers not supplying us with new shows in a timely manner, and on a consistent schedule. Instead, we are adding the weekly broadcast from Free Speech Radio News (FSRN) which will now air Mondays at 10 AM Eastern.
In keeping with this new policy, we're dropping This Week in Radio News from our Sunday night media block, as we haven't seen any new shows posted to their website in over a month! Sorry, guys! We're adding the weekly 15 minute audio bulletin from the American Radio Relay League, ARRL Audio News, which will offer reporting on some of the latest developments within the Amateur Radio Community. This airs Sundays at 10:30 PM Eastern. Immediately following at 10:45 Eastern, it's Skeptoid, hosted by Brian Dunning. This weekly podcast discusses popular myths and conspiracy theories, and offers strong evidence and facts which help to debunk said myths and conspiracies. This was a popular feature on the now defunct Skeptical Sunday program, and we are pleased to bring it back to the GCR schedule!
Earlier on Sunday evenings on GCR1, we are adding two new short features to our block of arts oriented programming, both hosted by Kristin Dreyer Kramer. At 6:55 PM Eastern, following Filmspotting, you can hear her weekly film reviews on Reel Discovery. One hour later, at 7:55 following Arts Express, hear her weekly review of books called Shelf Discovery.
On GCR2, we regret that we are dropping the two syndicated shows hosted by Bob Francis. Rocketman Roberts Classic Radio Show, and Vintage Gold Classics. This has absolutely nothing to do with the quality of these two shows. Unfortunately, serious concerns have arisen lately about the commercials for businesses such as GoDaddy.com, which are contained within these programs. These commercials DO NOT qualify as underwriting under the FCC's current guidelines. If we were solely an internet webcast still, there would be no issues, as we could run full blown commercials whether we were receiving payment for them or not. However, as GCR has evolved into a program service designed specifically for rebroadcast by non-commercial terrestrial broadcasters primarily based here in the US, we need to follow FCC guidelines concerning non-commercial radio to the letter of the law, whether we agree with those rules or not. So, Bob and I mutually agreed to suspend his programs from GCR for the moment. Bob has said that he may make these shows available as commercial free offerings, but, there will be a per station fee attached to carry the shows. Right now, none of our partner stations are carrying GCR2 late on Saturday afternoons when these shows would air. If, at some point, one of our current partner stations, or a new partner station, begins carrying GCR2 during these hours, and, if the stations would like to have these shows reinstated on the schedule, then we will consider purchasing these programs from Bob Francis. Watch this space for further developments.
In the meantime, we are adding The Pirate Years, another great offering from Paul Peters out of the UK, and, Saving the 70s, a program produced and hosted by Mike Walker. We hope everyone will enjoy these new shows which will air Saturdays between 4 and 6 PM Eastern.
Also, we may need to make changes to our overnight programming soon, as we received word from one of our hosts that they may soon need to cut back their production output due to a change in their personal and financial circumstances. Again, I must remind you all that most of our hosts are volunteers who do their radio shows as a true labor of love. As such, it often becomes necessary to make changes to or even cancel a radio show if drastic changes occur in their personal or professional lives. We at GCR understand this, we hope our listeners and partner stations do, too.
As always, thank you for your continued support of GCR. And, again, as always, we'll do our best to continue to bring you the finest commercial free programming from around the world.
Kind regards,
Jason Longwell

Changes to GCR1 Sunday Schedule
Notice to Listeners and Rebroadcasters:
Recently, John Sullivan, host of Skeptical Sunday, announced that he was ending production of his program. This means that there is a new lineup in place on GCR1 from 10 PM to Midnight Eastern on Sundays.
Effective immediately, we will be expanding our radio/media block to three hours on Sunday with the addition of Wavescan and This Week in Radio News. At 11 PM Eastern, we retain the program Freethought Radio, which was a popular feature on Skeptical Sunday. At 11:45, we are adding a new weekly feature called The Radio Kid's Rant!. This is a mini rant from The Radio Kid of Clearing the Static. The rant will be about topics that are not radio or media related. We think this will make for an interesting way to wrap up your weekend listening!
As always, please feel free to submit your feedback about our programming. It is very much appreciated.

Programming Changes to GCR1
Notice to our listeners and partner stations:
It has become necessary to make changes to the program schedule of Global Community Radio Channel One. These changes are being implemented because some of our programs have ended production.
We regret to inform you that the long running environmental news magazine program Sierra Club Radio has ended production due to lack of funding for future programs. We had been carrying Sierra Club as far back as 2011 as part of Geneva Community Radio, so, we're sorry to see this outstanding program come to such an abrupt end.
Also, the ABC (Australian Broadcasting Corporation) has cancelled two of its weekly programs that we had been running. The List, a program about popular culture, and, The Media Report, focusing on various aspects of global media, are no longer available. Again, we're sorry to lose these excellent programs. We hope that more program cuts from the ABC are not forthcoming, though it seems to be the new normal, as funding from the Australian government for this outstanding public broadcaster shrinks more and more each year!
On Mondays at 10 AM Eastern, we are bringing back to the GCR schedule (the show aired on the former Geneva Community Radio) Liberation Radio, the weekly radio program and podcast produced by the Party for Socialism and Liberation. We sincerely hope that everyone will listen to this program with an open mind, and that all who listen will find its contents to be informative.
We are moving some shows around to ensure a better "flow" of our programming. For example, we're moving the ABC's Download This Show to our Tuesday Science and Technology block. We are moving The Allegheny Front to our Thursday environmental block. The program Person, Place, Thing, from WAMC/National Productions, is moving to Wednesdays at 2:35 PM Eastern, immediately following Eyes On Success. New Letters on the Air shifts to Sundays at 2:30 PM, with Writer's Voice shifting to Sundays at 3 PM Eastern. This will be followed at 4 PM by a brand new show to the GCR1 lineup. The Future of What, a program about the music industry for insiders and non-insiders alike.
Again, we apologize for any inconvenience these unforeseen program changes may cause. As always, it's a situation we have absolutely no control over.
As always, your feedback about our programming is appreciated. We will always strive to present as diverse a program schedule as we possible. Thanks for your continued support.
Sincerely,
Jason Longwell

Programming Changes at GCR2
Dear Listeners and Rebroadcasters:
In the short time GCR2 has been on the air, it is already necessary to make some significant program schedule changes. This is mainly due to the fact that a couple of programs we were hoping to gain the rights to shortly after launch, are, apparently, not available to us at this time. We had been airing repeats of previously aired shows in the time slots we reserved for the unavailable programming. At Global Community Radio, we don't like repeats/reruns, and we strive to offer as many outstanding shows as we possibly can in our schedules. So, we are making some changes to ensure the best "flow" possible when it comes to the sound of GCR2.
Among the changes are:
Strike Up the Band, a show of classic Big Band music, moves to Saturdays at 10 AM.
Jazz Progressions, focusing on free Jazz and Jazz Fusion, will move to Tuesdays at 6 PM, and will be the last show in the Tuesday block of Jazz programs which all shift one hour earlier.
The Flip Side, focusing on classic 45 rpm records, moves to Saturdays at 3 PM. This will shift our other vintage Rock N Roll programming to start Saturdays at 11 AM with The Fabulous 50's Radio Show.
Thrift Store Vinyl Hour, offering classic vinyl with an emphasis on classic Country and Rock, moves to Mondays at 1 AM, pushing the eclectic music program Soundwave to start at Midnight, and Full Moon Hacksaw to start Sundays at 10 PM
We are adding a third hour of Broadway music on Sundays at 3 PM, as we begin airing Stage Notes, from WXXI Public Broadcasting in Rochester, New York. This will move Cafe Jazz to 4 PM Sundays.
We are adding the eclectic music show Deep Threes on Thursdays from 3 to 5 AM. This show offers such genres as Ambient, Electronica, and Experimental music, among others.
All other programming remains the same. We do not anticipate anymore programming changes to GCR2 in the near future. There may be a few changes coming to GCR1 as well, and those details are being worked out at this time. We'll post the details when they have been finalized.
We apologize to our listeners and our partner stations for any inconvenience these changes may cause. Unfortunately, more often than not, when you are running a non-commercial radio service that is based almost entirely on gratis programming, change is inevitable. Please be assured Global Community Radio will always stive to present the highest quality, and the widest variety of commercial free programming from around the world. As always, we welcome comments and suggestions from everyone. Listeners and partner stations alike.
Kind regards,
Jason Longwell
